This policy explains what information EHS Field Notes (ehsfieldnotes.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I collect as little as possible, I use it only to run this site and reply to you, and I don’t sell it.
What I collect
When you use the contact form: your name, your email address, and whatever you write in your message.
When you subscribe to email updates: your email address and, if you give it, your first name.
When you browse the site: standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device, pages visited, and how you arrived at the site. Most of this comes through analytics cookies (see below).
I don’t ask for sensitive information and I don’t want it. Please don’t send confidential company data, incident details that identify people, or medical information through the form.
How I use it
- To reply to your message.
- To send email updates you signed up for.
- To understand which content is useful, so I can write more of it.
- To keep the site secure and working.
I don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information. I don’t use it for advertising.
Services that process data for me
A few outside services handle data so the site can run. Each one has its own privacy policy.
- Hostinger: hosts the website.
- Google (Gmail): delivers contact form messages to my inbox.
- Google Analytics, through Site Kit: measures site traffic.
- Kit: manages the email list, if you subscribe.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses cookies for basic functions and for Google Analytics, which collects information about how visitors use the site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The site will still work without them.
Do Not Track: browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. There’s no industry standard for how to respond, so this site doesn’t change its behavior when it receives one.
How long I keep it
- Contact form messages: kept in my email for as long as they’re useful for the conversation, then deleted.
- Email subscribers: kept until you unsubscribe. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Analytics data: kept according to Google Analytics retention settings.
Your choices and rights
You can ask me to:
- tell you what personal information I have about you,
- correct it,
- delete it, or
- stop emailing you.
Email me at the address below and I’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re a California resident, you have these rights under California law, and I won’t treat you differently for using them.
Children
This site is meant for working professionals. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their information.
Links to other sites
I link to agency sites, standards and other resources. Their privacy practices are their own. Check their policies.
Changes
If I change this policy, I’ll update the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted on the site.
